BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Results of a recent survey are showing how landlords and property managers are reacting to recent changes in state and local rental regulations.
The survey results will be presented to the Bellingham City Council on Monday, March 9 at their regular meeting.
Landlords and property managers responded to the survey last October, a few months after new local regulations around so-called “junk fees” had gone into effect.
A statewide rent-stabilization law also went into effect in May 2025.
The feedback the survey relayed more confusion around navigating the changing landscape of regulations.
Respondents also increased rent ahead of the rent-stabilization law as landlords feared they would not be able to keep up with increasing costs.
The survey will be used as advice for the council as they move forward with communicating with property managers in the city.
City staff recommends conducting a similar survey later this year.
