BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – No one was injured after an RV fire started near the Guide on Monday.

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue Chief Jason Van der Veen says crews were called to the fire at the intersection of the Guide and Smith Road at around 5 p.m.

The fire started when someone tried to start their RV using starter fluid after the vehicle hadn’t been used since the previous season. First responders arrived to find the RV on fire along with a second RV it had spread to.

North Whatcom was able to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading further with help from Fire District 7 and the Bellingham Fire Department.

Van der Veen says the incident is a good reminder to properly maintain seasonal equipment and practice safe starting procedures.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
