WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Residents in Whatcom and Skagit counties may see some minor flooding in the next 24 hours.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning people to be on the lookout for river flooding through Tuesday, Jan. 13 for rivers flowing out of the North Cascades. Heavy rainfall has continued over the North Cascades, with Whatcom County receiving the brunt of it.
The Nooksack River at Ferndale is currently forecast to crest just below the minor flooding stage around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
No other locations in Whatcom County are expected to breach the action stage.
Meanwhile, the Skagit River at Mount Vernon and Concrete are both forecast to crest above the minor flooding stage on Tuesday.
NWS also warns that “very dangerous” avalanche conditions are developing in the North and Central Cascades.
It comes days after an avalanche southwest of Leavenworth killed two people on Friday.
