WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The North Cascades Highway is nearing its return.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says the stretch of SR 20 between the Ross Dam trailhead and Silver Star gate is primed for a potential reopening this month.
The agency’s east and west side clearing crews met in the middle on Thursday, April 10 which means most of the snow has been cleared from the road.
WSDOT adds that bikers are welcome to ride through the passes this weekend ahead of the highway’s reopening.
However, WSDOT is urging bikers to travel with caution since there’s no cell service and the road still has rough conditions in some places.
The North Cascade Highway’s seasonal closure began last November.
Despite the promising news, no specific reopening date has been announced yet.
