LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A local community newspaper is planning to ring in the new year with new ownership.
Pat Grubb and Louise Mugar announced they will be retiring after 35 years of co-publishing various periodicals, including The Northern Light.
The couple got into local publishing in 1991 after purchasing All Point Bulletin.
The Northern Light was established a few years later, highlighting stories and topics from Blaine, Birch Bay and Point Roberts. Grubb says that the name was taken from Whatcom County’s first newspaper in 1858.
He and Mugar also purchased and continue to publish two magazines: Mount Baker Experience and Pacific Coast Weddings.
The two are in the process of finalizing their ownership transfer to an unnamed non-profit newspaper company.
Once negotiations with that company are complete, Grubb says that new issues of The Northern Light and their other publications will continue after a short hiatus.
