Mariner’s News
Cal Raleigh made major league history in today’s win over the Cubs.
The Big Dumper hit two home runs to help the Mariners top Chicago 9-4 in their series opener.
It was Cal’s major league-leading 28th and 29th homers of the season, which broke Hall of Famer Johnny Bench’s record for the most any catcher has had before the All-Star break.
Mitch Garver added a pair of long balls himself in the win.
It was the most runs they’ve scored since May 27.
George Kirby gave up four runs through five innings in the start, but the Mariners’ bullpen held steady from there with five relievers combining for four scoreless innings.
The M’s will look to clinch the series in Game 2 tomorrow with Emerson Hancock taking the mound.
Coverage begins at 10 am and first pitch is at 11:20 on KPUG.
The Mariners made a pair of roster moves right before today’s game.
Seattle reinstated Luke Raley from the injured list.
He went 1-3 while pinch-hitting for Dylan Moore in right field.
It was Raley’s first game with the club since he suffered an oblique strain on April 27.
With Raley taking up a roster spot, the team designated first baseman Rowdy Tellez for assignment.
Tellez hit .208 with 11 homers in 62 games over his first season with the Mariners.
Bells News
The Bells are back in town on the heels of yet another series win.
They shut out Edmonton 7-0 last night to win their sixth-straight series to start the season.
Miles Chandler tossed four scoreless innings in the start
Nate Kirkpatrick and Gavin Long each picked up three hits to lead another high-scoring game for the Bells.
They’ve now won 9 of their last 11 games heading into tonight’s series opener against the Marion Berries.
It’s the first season for the brand new team, which hails from Salem, OR.
First pitch is at 6:35 from Joe Martin Field.
Sounders News
There was plenty of soccer action yesterday.
The Sounders fell to Atletico Madrid 3-1 in the FIFA Club World Cup down at Lumen Field.
Seattle is still alive in the tournament though, because Brazilian side Botafogo beat Paris Saint Germain 1 to 0.
But it won’t be an easy road out of the group stage for the Sounders.
They’re 0-2 in Group B and need to win out in order to have a chance at advancing to the Round of 16.
Their next game is against PSG at noon on Monday.
Meanwhile, the US Men’s Team booked their trip to the next round of the Gold Cup yesterday with a 1 to 0 win over Saudi Arabia.
The U.S. has won its group in 16 of 17 Gold Cups, and closes Group D play on Sunday against Haiti in Arlington, Texas.
Kraken News
The Kraken made their first big roster move of the season yesterday.
Seattle acquired forward Mason Marchment from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2026 third-rounder.
The 30-year-old Marchment is one of the NHL’s tallest players at 6-foot-5.
He tied his career high with 22 goals last season and had 25 assists in 62 games.
The Stars were eager to move Marchment in a salary-shredding move with the final year of his contract carrying a $4.5 million cap hit.
The Kraken are still gearing up for the NHL draft, which starts one week from today.
They own the 8th overall pick.
Storm News
The Storm are in for another reunion with their former star in tonight’s game against the Las Vegas Aces.
Seattle and Vegas have split the two games they’ve played since Jewell Loyd was traded to the Aces in an offseason blockbuster.
Loyd requested a trade from the Storm after she accused coach Noelle Quinn and her staff of bullying and harassment during the 2024 season.
The bad blood continued earlier this season when Loyd claimed an assistant coach with the Storm cursed at her during a game on June 1.
But the Seattle Times reports that the Storm were not penalized and the WNBA is no longer reviewing the complaint.
The Storm will look to hand the Aces their third straight loss tonight in Vegas.
They tip off at 7:00.
It comes as the league released an update on All-Star voting today.
The Storm had Gabby Williams and Nneka Ogwumike place 10th and 11th in the frontcourt, respectively.
NBA Finals
And the NBA Finals is going to Game 7 for the first time in nearly a decade.
The Indiana Pacers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 108-91 last night to tie the series at three games apiece.
Obi Toppin led the Pacers with 20 points off the bench and Tyrese Halibruton managed 14 points and 5 assists while dealing with a calf strain that made him a game-time decision prior to tip.
Sunday’s deciding match in OKC will be the first Game 7 since LeBron James and the Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 deficit against the Warriors in 2016.
Coverage begins at 4:00 and tipoff is at 5:00 on KPUG.
