Mariners news

The accolades keep coming in for Cal Raleigh.

The Big Dumper’s historic season continued yesterday with his first All-Star selection and his honor as American League Player of the Month for June.

Cal will start at catcher in the All-Star Game on July 15.

He’s the second Mariners catcher to make the All-Star game and first since his manager Dan Wilson did so in 1996.

He’s also the first Mariners hitter to be named starter since Nelson Cruz in 2015.

Cal leads the MLB with 33 home runs during his scorching first half of the season.

He’s currently on pace to break Aaron Judge’s AL record of 62 home runs for a season.

Cal celebrated the news by sitting out of yesterday’s game for just the second time this season, but it didn’t matter as the M’s beat the Royals 3-2.

Randy Arozarena got the scoring started in the fifth inning with his fourth home run in the last three games.

Julio Rodriguez drove Ben Williamson in on an infield single to take the lead and Arozarena scored Cole Young on a sac fly for the insurance run.

Logan Gilbert gave up one run and struck out seven across four and two-thirds innings in the start.

Andres Munoz closed it out with a perfect ninth inning to earn his 19th save of the season.

The Mariners will look to win the series tonight in their fourth and final game against the Royals with All-Star hopeful Bryan Woo taking the mound.

Coverage begins at 6:00 and first pitch is at 7:10 on KPUG.

Bells news

The Bells couldn’t secure their series last night.

They fell to the Kelowna Falcons 9-5 in their rubber match up North.

The Bells held a 5-3 lead after five innings, but Kelowna scored six runs in the final three to steal the win.

The Bells are now 1-2 after their first series of the second half schedule.

They’ll look to rebound against Port Angeles tomorrow in their return to Bellingham for the 4th of July.

First pitch is at 6:35 and be sure to stick around for the post-game fireworks.

Storm news

The Storm are on the road against the Atlanta Dream tonight.

The Dream’s Allisha Gray was just announced as an All-Star starter along with the Storm’s Nneka Ogwumike.

Seattle will look to slow down an Atlanta squad that owns the second-best record in the Eastern Conference.

The Storm sit just a game behind them in the WNBA standings as two of the top five teams in the league.

Tonight’s game tips off at 4:30.

A Seattle Storm legend is being honored later this summer.

The team announced yesterday that it’s unveiling a statue of Sue Bird outside of Climate Pledge on August 17.

It makes Bird the first player to be honored with a statue by a WNBA franchise.

Bird spent her entire 21-season career in Seattle while helping lead the team to four championships.

She became a minority owner in the organization after retiring in 2022.

Kraken news

The Kraken have locked down a deal with their next big rookie.

The team announced today that it signed 8th overall draft pick Jake O’Brien to a three-year contract with an average annual value of $995,000.

The 18-year-old center had 32 goals and 66 assists with the Brantford Bulldogs last year in the Ontario Hockey League.

Kraken GM Jason Botterill says O’Brien brings elite vision and hockey IQ along with tremendous work ethic and a strong two-way game to the team.
