The Mariners are looking to bounce back tonight after falling in their season opener.

The M’s lost to the Cleveland Guardians 6-4 yesterday at T-Mobile Park.

It started off strong, with Brendan Donovan hitting a leadoff home run in his first regular season at-bat as a Mariner. Dominic Canzone added a pair of homers and Luke Raley also went yard, but the Mariners’ bullpen couldn’t keep the game within reach as the Guardians prevailed.

Logan Gilbert gave up three runs and struck out seven through five and one thirds innings in the start.

Seattle will try to even their record up tonight with George Kirby taking the mound for the second of their four-game series against Cleveland.

Kraken News

The Kraken snapped their losing streak in style last night.

Brandon Montour scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead Seattle over the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3. Montour also scored the first goal of the game before Kaapo Kakko and Bobby McMann each scored, but Tampa evened it up with a pair of goals in the third period.

Montour went on to score just under three minutes into extra time to help the Kraken end their four-game losing streak. They’ve now pulled within three points of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Kraken are back tomorrow afternoon to face the Buffalo Sabres. Coverage begins at 2:00 and puck drops at 2:30 on KGMI.

March Madness News

March Madness continues today as the Sweet 16 nears its end in the men’s tournament.

Top-seeded Duke is battling it out with 5th-seeded St. John’s, while top-seeded Michigan is playing 4th-seeded Alabama. Later on tonight, 2nd-seeded UConn will play 3rd-seeded Michigan State and 2nd-seeded Iowa State will face 6th-seeded Tennessee.

Meanwhile, top-seeded Arizona will play 2nd-seeded Purdue and 9th-seeded Iowa will play 3rd-seeded Illinois tomorrow in the Elite 8.

The women’s Sweet 16 just tipped off today, with 6th-seeded Notre Dame upsetting 2nd-seeded Vanderbilt to book its ticket to the Elite 8.

Western’s softball team opened its conference schedule with a bang earlier today.

The Viks beat Central Washington in both legs of their doubleheader at Viking Field, capped off with a walk-off sac fly by senior Olivia Matlock in Game 2.

Western mercy-ruled Central 11-2 in the first game. It was their first two games of their GNAC schedule.

They’re back at Viking Field tomorrow for another doubleheader against Central. Those games will take place at noon and 2:30.

Golf icon Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a car crash in Florida earlier today.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office says Woods was driving at a high speed when he tried to pass a truck. Woods swerved to avoid the truck but clipped the back of its trailer, flipping his Land Rover on its side before sliding down the road.

Neither Woods nor the other driver were injured.

Woods was then arrested on suspicion of DUI after showing signs of impairment. His breathalyzer test showed no signs of alcohol, but Woods refused to submit a urine test.
