Mariners News
The Mariners’ bats kept up their hot hitting today and won their series against the Reds in extras. Seattle beat Cincinatti 11-7 in 10 innings thanks to a four-run explosion in the 10th.
Austin Hays hit a 2-run homer in the first inning to give the Reds an early lead, but Luke Raley responded with a 2-run shot of his own to tie it up in the fourth. The M’s trailed by two runs entering the ninth inning, but Cal Raleigh and Randy Arozarena each hit solo homers to send the game to extras. Dylan Moore scored the go-ahead run in the 10th off an infield single by JP Crawford and Arozarena hit a 2-run double before Mitch Garver scored one more insurance run off a fielding error to secure the win.
Emerson Hancock gave up two runs in five innings in his return to the starting rotation. Meanwhile, Cal Raleigh’s solo shot was his sixth home run in as many games as he continues his torrid stretch of hitting.
The Mariners now have a winning record for the first time since Opening Day while winning six of their last seven. They’ll look to carry the momentum up north against the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game weekend series. Coverage for tomorrow’s series-opener begins at 3:00 and first pitch is at 4:07 on KPUG with Bryan Woo taking the mound.
Seahawks News
The NFL Draft is a week away and the Seahawks have plenty of real estate. Seattle has 10 picks, including five in the top hundred.
They own the 18th overall pick in the first round and will have plenty of action on Day Two of the draft, with two picks in each of the second and third rounds. But general manager John Schneider didn’t rule out using some of those picks to trade up when speaking to reporters at the draft combine.
Offensive line will likely be a focus for Schneider and Co. after giving up the third-most sacks in the league last season. The 2025 NFL Draft kicks off next Thursday from just outside the historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
SuperSonics News
The NBA is again teasing a potential return to Seattle. League commissioner Adam Silver went on the Pat McAfee Show today and said the league is “looking hard” at expansion options. He added that there’s been clear interest in Seattle and Las Vegas, specifically calling Seattle a “fantastic” market for the league. Silver says the league will get into a more formal process of planning out expansion after the NBA Finals this summer.
College Football News
A longtime staple of one of sport’s most iconic TV shows is stepping away. ESPN announced today that Lee Corso will retire from “College GameDay” in August, ending a career with the show that began in 1987.
Corso, who turns 90 in August, is known for his wide variety of headgear picks. He would dress up as the Fighting Irish leprechaun from Notre Dame, the Stanford tree and historic figures like James Madison and Benjamin Franklin. He even once held a live baby alligator in his hands while picking Florida to win.
College GameDay won nine Emmys during Corso’s time with the program. His final broadcast will be on Aug. 30.
