Mariners News
The Mariners fumbled an early lead and lost to the Yankees 3-2 this afternoon.
Julio Rodriguez hit a 2-run double in the third inning to start Seattle off strong. Luis Castillo gave up just one run through six innings in the start. But Paul Goldschmidt and Aaron Judge each hit solo homers off the Mariners relievers to give the Yankees a win in the series rubber match. Randy Arozarena was hit by a pitch to extend his on-base streak to 35 games.
The Mariners have now lost five of their last six matches, but still hold a one-game lead over the Athletics for first place in the AL West. The M’s have the day off tomorrow before hitting the road for a weekend series against the San Diego Padres.
Another starting pitcher for the Mariners is hitting the injured list. The club placed Bryce Miller on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation ahead of today’s game against the Yankees. Miller has faced early-season struggles, going 2-4 with a 5.22 ERA in eight starts. The 26-year-old says he’s been dealing with right elbow issues since the end of last season, and especially since making his first start in 2025.
He now joins fellow starters Logan Gilbert and George Kirby on the IL. Kirby is expected to make his first start of the season next week, while Gilbert just threw his first bullpen session since getting injured late last month.
