Mariners News

The Mariners used a mammoth seventh inning to beat the Angels 9-3 this afternoon. Seattle and LA entered the seventh knotted at 3 runs apiece, but the M’s reeled off six runs to propel them to their fourth straight win.

Randy Arozarena got things started in the second inning with his fifth homer of the year. Leo Rivas continued his stellar start to the season filling in at second base with three hits and three RBI. JP Crawford and Donovan Solano each added a pair of hits for a Mariners offense that has been among the best in the league over the past few weeks. Crawford has now hit safely in nine straight games.

Emerson Hancock gave up three runs and struck out four in the start. Casey Legumina spear-headed a shutout effort from the bullpen to earn his second win of the season. Angels star Mike Trout left the game with an apparent injury after trying to run out a ground ball in the third inning.

The Mariners have now won seven straight series following this brief two-game sweep over LA and hold a two-game lead over Houston and Texas for first place in the AL West. The M’s have the day off tomorrow before hitting the road for a weekend series against the Rangers.

Meanwhile, another Mariner has bit the dust. The team placed outfielder Luke Raley on the 10-day injured list today with a right oblique strain.

Raley tweaked his side during batting practice before yesterday’s win over the Angels. The 30-year-old is batting .206 with two home runs and eight RBIs while filling in at right field for the injured Victor Robles. The Mariners called up outfielder Rhylan Thomas from Triple-A Tacoma to add outfield depth. Raley joins Dylan Moore and Logan Gilbert as key contributors for Seattle that have been placed on the IL over the past week.

It comes as general manager Justin Hollander said today that George Kirby could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend. Kirby was shut down during spring training with right shoulder inflammation and has yet to play this season.

Seahawks News

The Seahawks are bringing back a veteran defender. The NFL Network reports that the team is expected to re-sign nose tackle Johnathan Hankins. Seattle didn’t add a nose tackle in the draft and will return the 33-year-old Hankins after he played in all 17 games last season as an early-down, run-stuffer. He gives the Seahawks depth on the interior behind Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed and Byron Murphy II.

Seattle Hockey News

A pair of new pro hockey teams are coming to the Pacific Northwest. The Professional Women’s Hockey League announced today that Seattle is joining Vancouver as the league’s two new expansion teams. Seattle’s team will initially go by PWHL Seattle and its colors will be emerald green and cream. Its expansion bid was led by the Kraken and the Oak View Group, which developed and operates Climate Pledge Arena, where the team will play.

The young league will now have eight teams ahead of its third season. The league’s VP of business operations says Seattle and Vancouver will have a “built-in rivalry.” An expansion draft for both teams will be announced at a later date.

WWU Vikings News

Spring sports are hitting the postseason at Western Washington University.  The 9th nationally-ranked Vikings softball team owns the top seed for this week’s GNAC Championships. Western finished the regular season with a 37-10 record, going an impressive 21-3 against GNAC opponents. They enter the conference tournament on a 10-game win streak and have won 16 of their last 17 matches.

The Viks dominated the conference’s regular season awards, having eight selections to the 2025 All-GNAC teams. Sophomore third baseman Maleah Andrews won co-Player of the Year after finishing the season with a ridiculous .500 batting average, which ranks second in all of Division II softball. Fellow sophomore Kaiana Kong was named GNAC Pitcher of the Year and skipper Sheryl Gilmore took home co-Coach of the Year. They’ll face Montana State Billings at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon in the opening round of the GNAC Championships in Nampa, ID.

Meanwhile, Western’s No. 3 nationally ranked rowing team won a gold medal at the WIRA Championships in California last weekend. The performance earned them GNAC Crew of the Week. The defending national champs are back at it again this weekend for the Windermere Cup in Seattle.

And Western’s men’s golf team extended its lengthy streak of national tournament appearances. The Vikings were announced as the No. 9 seed in the NCAA D-II West Regional tournament earlier this week. It marks the 26th straight season that the team has qualified for the tournament.

The women’s team did not make it, but junior Lauren F. Lee qualified for the tournament as one of six individual golfers in the West Region.
