Mariners News
The Mariners are looking to continue their hot streak tonight in their series opener against the LA Angels. The M’s are coming off back-to-back wins over the Marlins that gave them their sixth-straight series win. They now sit in first place in the AL West after winning 12 of their last 16 games.
Meanwhile, the Angels have struggled after starting the season atop the division. LA has lost 10 of its last 13 and is coming off a series sweep to the Twins where they managed just five total runs.
Bryce Miller will look to get his mojo back at T-Mobile tonight after a rough outing against the Red Sox in his last start. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.
Another unexpected injury will leave the Mariners shorthanded for the series. The team placed utility man Dylan Moore on the 10-day injured list today with right hip inflammation. Taking his place will be Samad Taylor, who was just called up from Triple-A Tacoma.
Moore leaves that team in the midst of a great start to the season, where he’s hitting .286 with six home runs and 16 runs scored. His hot play earned him American League Player of the Week honors recently. The Mariners will certainly miss his versatility, as Moore has played in every position except left field, center field and catcher this season.
Seahawks News
The Seahawks made a flurry of post-draft roster moves yesterday. First, the team exercised its fifth-year option on left tackle Charles Cross. The ninth-overall pick in 2022 has proven to be durable, starting 48 of a possible 51 games. He’s considered to be the anchor of an offensive line that general manager John Schneider has admitted needs a makeover this offseason.
Meanwhile, the team waived several players, including quarterback Jaren Hall. Seattle signed the former fifth-round pick off waivers in fall 2024, but with Sam Darnold, Drew Lock and the newly-acquired rookie Jalen Milroe taking up three spots in the quarterback room, Hall was deemed the odd man out.
One of the Seahawks’ division rivals also made a post-draft splash. The San Francisco 49ers announced today that they’ve extended tight end George Kittle through the 2029 season. Kittle told the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast that the deal is worth roughly $76 million. The 31-year-old is coming off a season where he caught for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns with the Niners. Kittle’s signing comes as the team continues to work with quarterback Brock Purdy on a long-awaited contract extension of his own.
WSU Cougars Football News
The Pac-12 announced a television deal for the 2025 football season that will put all of the home games for Washington State and Oregon State on The CW Network, CBS or ESPN. The conference announced the deal today, saying that The CW will air nine of the games, with CBS and ESPN getting two games each.
CBS will show the Apple Cup between the Cougs and Huskies in its return to Pullman on Sept. 20. It comes ahead of the final season with just Washington State and Oregon State in the Pac-12.
The conference is expanding in 2026 to add Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Utah State and San Diego State for all sports and Gonzaga for everything except football. But the Pac-12 still needs to add at least one more football school.
The conference is still working on a long-term TV deal to start in 2026.
