Mariners News

The Mariners have the day off today after playing their best series of the season over the weekend. The M’s swept the Texas Rangers to boost their win streak to four and even up their record to 8-8. Cal Raleigh highlighted the weekend by hitting a home run in each game in his first series using the team’s new torpedo bats. Logan Gilbert capped off the series with a strong outing yesterday to earn his first win of the season.

The M’s now sit a game and a half back from the Rangers for first place in the AL West. They’ll look to extend their win streak tomorrow with Luis Castillo on the mound in the first of a three-game series in Cincinnati. Coverage begins at 2:30 and first pitch is at 3:40 on KPUG.

In other Mariners news, the team called up third base prospect Ben Williamson yesterday. The move was made as M’s placed Ryan Bliss on the 60-day injured list to open up a roster spot for Williamson. MLB Pipeline lists him as the 13th-ranked prospect in Seattle’s farm system who can bring strong defense to the hot corner. It comes as the team also optioned Dominic Canzone back to Triple-A Tacoma

Storm News

All eyes are on Seattle as the Storm own the second pick in tonight’s WNBA Draft. UConn star Page Bueckers is expected to go first overall to the Dallas Stars. After that, the Storm will be making their highest pick since taking Breanna Stewart first overall in 2016. Several mock drafts have Seattle taking French center Dominique Malonga. The 19-year-old averaged 18.5 points and 11 rebounds in the EuroCup against WNBA players.

Standing 6-foot-6, Malonga would add more size to an established Storm frontcourt that includes former All-Stars Nneka Ogwumike and Ezi Magbegor. But also in the running will be Notre Dame guard Sonia Citron, who could fill Jewell Loyd’s shoes as the new point guard in Seattle. Tonight’s draft begins at 4:30.

Kraken News

The Kraken pulled out a thrilling win in their penultimate game of the season. Seattle beat the St. Louis Blues 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday. Chandler Stephenson scored the deciding goal to back up 20 saves by Philipp Grubauer. It snapped a two-game skid for the Kraken, who have now won four of their last six. They’ll play their season finale against the LA Kings at Climate Pledge tomorrow night.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Reign fell to the Orlando Pride 1-0. Barbra Bana scored her third goal of the season to help the Pride keep its perfect 4-0 record.
