Mariners News

The Mariners have announced their starters for the first two games of the playoffs this weekend.

Dan Wilson says George Kirby will open the series at T-Mobile tomorrow before Luis Castillo takes the mound for Game 2 on Sunday.

The Mariners are hosting the Detroit Tigers for the start of their best-of-five series in the ALDS. Detroit enters the series after beating Cleveland in the Wild Card round to avenge their late-season collapse that handed the Guardians the division title.

Coverage for Game 1 begins at 4:30 tomorrow and first pitch is at 5:38 on KPUG. Game 2 will have a 5:00 first pitch on Sunday, also on KPUG.

On the other side of the American League bracket, the Yankees are gearing up for a series against the Blue Jays in a matchup of AL East opponents.

In the National League, the Dodgers are playing the Phillies and the Cubs are taking on the Brewers.

Seahawks News

It’s looking to be an electric Sunday in Seattle, as the Seahawks host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just hours before the Mariners play Game 2.

The Seahawks have won three straight after handling the Cardinals on Thursday Night Football last week. A win would push them into a tie with the 49ers for first place in the NFC West.

But they’ll enter the matchup without several of their top defensive players. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon, safety Julian Love and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence have all been ruled out for Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are also banged up, having lost two star playmakers in Mike Evans and Bucky Irving to injuries.  They also own a 3-1 record after losing to the Eagles last week in a tight game.

Sunday’s coverage begins at 11 am and kickoff is at 1:05 on KGMI.

Elsewhere in the NFC West, it was a dramatic ending to Thursday Night Football yesterday.

The San Francisco 49ers edged the Los Angeles Rams 26-23 in overtime. The Niners made a massive stop on fourth and one to secure the game.

They were playing shorthanded, with Mac Jones filling in for usual starter Brock Purdy and while missing their top four receiving targets. Jones shined in the start, throwing for 342 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers.

It pushed San Fran above the Seahawks for first place in the division, while the Rams slid to third with the loss.

Huskies/Cougs News

The Huskies are hitting the road for their first away game in Big Ten conference play. They’re traveling to Maryland to face the undefeated Terrapins.

UW is coming off a loss to top nationally ranked Ohio State that snapped their 22-game home win streak. They’ll look to bounce back against a Maryland team that has won all four of its games by double digits this season.

Coverage begins at noon and kickoff is at 12:30 tomorrow on KPUG.

The Cougs have the week off to prepare for next weekend’s road matchup against 4th nationally ranked Ole Miss.

HS Football News

Lynden edged Sehome 38-33 at Civic Stadium last night in a meeting between two of the top class 2A schools in the state.

The Lions led by 17 in the 4th quarter, but Nolan Wright led the Mariners on a long touchdown drive, then they recovered a blocked punt in Lynden’s end zone to cut the deficit to five. But the Lions answered with a touchdown and Sehome’s late score wasn’t enough to win it.

Meanwhile, the Ferndale Golden Eagles are traveling south to face Stanwood on KGMI. Allan Fee and the crew will preview each of those matchups and all the other ones happening around the county leading up to the 7:00 kickoff.
