Mariners News

The Mariners’ bats couldn’t stay hot from last night and lost to the Boston Red Sox 3-1 this afternoon.

The Sox scored first off a solo homer in the second and the M’s responded later in the inning when Randy Arozarena doubled and scored off a wild pitch. But they couldn’t muster any more offense from there as Trevor Story hit a go-ahead 2-run shot in the fourth to hand Seattle the series loss. Luis Castillo gave up three runs through six innings to fall to 4-5 on the season.

It came after the M’s won Game 2 yesterday 8-0 behind seven scoreless innings from Bryan Woo and a stellar outing from Cal Raleigh. Cal broke the game open with a grand slam for his major league-leading 27th home run of the season.

The M’s now sit five games back from Houston and one game ahead of third-place Texas in the AL West. They have the day off tomorrow before traveling to the Windy City for a three-game series against the NL Central-leading Cubs.

Bells News

The Bells’ bats stayed red hot last night in a 7-1 win over the Edmonton Riverhawks. Cal Young threw just over four scoreless innings in the start and the Bells collected 15 hits to take the series-opener in Edmonton.

The team’s offense has come alive recently, scoring 29 runs across their current three-game win streak. They’ve also won eight of their last nine and now own sole possession of first place in the North Division. The only team in the West Coast League with a better record is the Portland Pickles, who lead the South Division with a  15-1 record.

The Bells will look to secure their sixth-straight series tonight in Game 2 against the Riverhawks. First pitch is at 6:35 from Edmonton.

Storm News

The Storm were dominant in a 98-67 win over the Los Angeles Sparks last night. Nneka Ogwumike scored a season-high 26 points and Gabby Williams had eight steals to set a franchise record in the win. It came against a shorthanded Sparks team that was missing its two starting guards, including former UW standout Kelsey Plum.

Unfortunately, Seattle just missed out on making the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup championship after the Minnesota Lynx won their game. The Lynx will take on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever in the midseason tournament final on July 1.

Seahawks News

Former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was charged with DUI yesterday in connection with an arrest made over a year ago. ESPN’s Brady Henderson reports the charge was filed one day after the King County Prosecutor received blood-test results taken on the night of the arrest.

Sherman was pulled over in February 2024 after a state trooper said he was traveling 20 miles over the speed limit on a highway in Renton. His arraignment is scheduled for June 30.

NHL News

The Florida Panthers have repeated as Stanley Cup champions. The Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 in Game 6 last night. Sam Reinhart led the team with four goals to become just the sixth player in league history and first since 1957 to score that many in the final.

The Panthers now become the third team this century to win back-to-back Stanley Cups.

Oilers star Connor McDavid was again denied the first title of his career in his second consecutive final.  With Edmonton’s loss, Canada’s Stanley Cup drought now sits at 32 years.
