The Seahawks are back in the primetime spotlight this weekend. They’re in the nation’s capital for a Sunday night matchup against the Commanders.

Seattle’s coming off a bye week where they got vaulted into a first-place tie in the NFC West with the LA Rams, both owning 5-2 records. They’re facing a Commanders team that announced today that second-year phenom Jayden Daniels will play after missing their last game.

Devon Witherspoon will look to make his return for the Seahawks as well, but Julian Love and Cooper Kupp’s status are both in question.The Seahawks will look to push past the injuries and win their third straight game on Sunday.

WWU Vikings News

Western basketball is officially back. Both the Vikings’ men’s and women’s teams are tipping off their seasons up north tonight with a pair of matches in Langley, BC.

The Western women started against Colorado Mesa at 11 am and the Western men face St. Edwards at 3:30 in the Canadian Tip-Off Classic.

Meanwhile, Western’s women’s soccer team picked up another win last night, beating Seattle Pacific 2-0 to extend their unbeaten streak to 13. The 11th nationally ranked Viks are back at home against MSU Billings tomorrow at 1 pm. The men play at Simon Frasier at 2 pm tomorrow.

And Western’s volleyball team swept Saint Martin’s in three sets last night to earn their third straight win. They’re back against Western Oregon at Carver Gym at 7:00 tomorrow night.

Huskies/Cougs News

The Cougs are facing off against Oregon State tomorrow in a matchup of the so-called “Pac-2.”

The Cougars and Beavers are the only two remaining teams left in the conference, but the Pac-12 is on track to add seven more teams by next summer. Washington State is coming off a dominant win over Toledo, while Oregon State just picked up its first win of the season last week after starting off 0-7.

Kickoff is at 4:30 tomorrow from Corvallis.

The Huskies have the week off before traveling to play Wisconsin next weekend.

Kraken News

The Kraken continue their homestand tomorrow night against the New York Rangers.

Seattle’s coming off a tight loss to Montreal where they rallied from a three-score deficit in the third period to force overtime. They’ll look to finish the job this time against a Rangers team searching for its third straight win.

MLB News

The Blue Jays have a chance to clinch their first World Series in over three decades tonight in front of their home crowd.

The Fall Classic is back in Toronto for Game 6 between the Jays and Dodgers. Toronto has won back-to-back games to take advantage, but it won’t be easy tonight against LA starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who’s coming off back-to-back complete games.

First pitch for tonight’s game is at 5:00. Game 7, if necessary, would take place at 5 pm tomorrow.

HS Football News

Lynden Christian spoiled Nooksack Valley’s Senior Night last night, beating the Pioneers 28-14 in Everson. Both teams are already headed to the 24-team play-in round next week, but the Lyncs clinched second place in the Northwest Conference with the win.

Over in Deming, first-place Mount Baker shut out Omak 30-0. The Mountaineers will join the Lyncs and Pioneers in the Week 10 play-in, with matchups set to be announced on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Meridian beat Blaine 43-25 to finish their season on a high note. And Squalicum blew by Bellingham 44-0.

 

More high school football on the radio for you tonight as the final week of the regular season wraps in here in Whatcom County. Allan Fee and the crew are live at Lynden High School for the Lions’ matchup against Burlington-Edison.

Both teams are already playoff bound and will compete in the 32-team play-in next week for a chance to make the state tournament. But a little momentum never hurts as the Lions and Tigers will look to duel it out in a rainy Halloween night matchup.

Across the county, Lummi Nation is hosting La Conner in their regular season finale.

The Blackhawks have a chance to finish the year above .500. They own a 4-4 record, a major improvement from last season when they finished without a win. Coverage begins at 4:40 and kickoff is at 5:00 over on KGMI with Jim Bring and the coach Dan Kaemingk on the call.

We’ll hear from both broadcasters on KPUG’s Friday Night Lights pregame ahead of their game before Rick Todd and Jason Upton join the show leading up to their 7:00 kickoff at Lynden.

Meanwhile, Sehome is playing at Archbishop Murphy tonight in another game between two teams that have already locked up a playoff spot.

And all eyes are on Ferndale tomorrow, as the Golden Eagles host Edmonds-Woodway with a ticket to the Week 10 play-in round on the line. They’ll kick off at 3:00.
