BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two Bellingham breweries are celebrating big wins at a national competition.
The Great American Beer Festival, held over this past weekend in Denver, doled out its annual awards for the best brews across the country.
Beach Cat Brewing got a gold medal in the Rye Beer category for its Red Cat Rye Lager.
This marks the first GABF award for the Birch Bay institution, which opened its second location in Bellingham last May.
And Kulshan Brewing scored a bronze medal in the Coffee Beer category for its aptly-named Cuppa Joe.
Both brews are available for sampling. Beach Cat has renamed their winner to Catashrophe Red Lager, which is on tap both of their locations as well as in cans in five counties.
Kulshan’s medal-winner is at their Roosevelt and Sunnyland taprooms. There are no plans to can the brew at this moment according to a Kulshan employee.
Past Whatcom County winners of the Great American Beer Festival include Boundary Bay, Wander, Aslan and Structures.
