WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A temporary closure has been extended near Everson due to the weather.

WSDOT has closed part of Highway 9 near Hopewell Road since Wednesday morning, Sept. 23 to wrap up a bridge repair project.

Crews will need dry weather to complete paving over the bridge. The work cannot be complete until the weather dries up, leaving the closure in place until further notice.

In the meantime, drivers are urged to use detour routes on E Pole Road, the Guide Meridian and the Mount Baker Highway.

In Skagit County, parts of Highway 9 are back open following separate construction projects.

WSDOT says that work on the Lake Creek Bridge near Lake McMurray has been finished nearly a week ahead of schedule. The road fully reopened Thursday, Sept. 24 after crews replaced the bridge deck and repaved the road.

Another stretch of Highway 9 reopened late Wednesday near Kalloch Road, east of Sedro-Woolley. Crews spent the summer installing a new fish-passable culvert over a tributary to Hansen Creek.

A second culvert was installed earlier in the summer east of Mount Vernon.
