BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A former hospital on the edge of Bellingham’s city center is up for sale.

PeaceHealth announced they listed their three parcels of land that includes the former St. Luke’s Hospital for sale on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

“With major investments already underway at the St. Joseph main campus—including the new Peter Paulsen Pavilion—this step allows PeaceHealth to concentrate resources where they will have the greatest impact on patient care and community health,” said Chuck Prosper, Chief Executive, Northwest.

According to Western Washington University’s Libraries, St. Luke’s was founded in Bellingham in 1892 and built a portion of the building now up for sale in 1895.

The Sisters of St. Joseph’s for Peace, now known as PeaceHealth, merged with St. Luke’s in 1989 before closing down operations.

According to the Whatcom County Assessor’s Office, The Sisters also owns the majority of two adjacent parcels which hold parking lots, an eight-unit apartment building as well as an office building.

The properties combined have a 2025 market valuation of over $18 million according to the assessor.

PeaceHealth spokesperson Amy Drury says that the sale of properties will allow for further investment in improving St. Joseph’s Medical Center.

All three parcels have been listed by Real Estate Company JLL.
