BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Port of Bellingham has approved a redistricting plan for the upcoming expansion of its board of commissioners.
Port commissioners unanimously approved a new plan to align the Port’s map of commissioner districts with that of the Whatcom County Council.
The only difference is the Port swapped Districts 3 and 5 with the council.
The county’s District 3, which represents Everson and east Whatcom County, will be labeled as District 5 in the Port’s new map.

Conversely, the county’s District 5, which represents Ferndale and far west Whatcom County, will be labeled as the Port’s District 3.
The change was made to comply with state law so that each of the three existing Port commissioners fill Districts 1, 2 and 3 on the new map.
The decision comes after voters approved a measure to expand the Port commission from three to five members.
The two new commissioners will be elected in the November 2026 election.
