BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Port of Bellingham will be holding free public open houses at their shipping terminal.

The Bellingham shipping terminal is one of only 11 deep-water ports in Washington state. The series of open houses will discuss ways that the Port is looking to modernize the terminal to create new jobs.

At the open houses on Sept. 28 and Oct. 4, attendees can learn about the types of cargo and vessels that are being recruited for the terminal, as well as an overview of economic benefits and shipping activity.

The Port is currently working on modernizing the Bellingham Shipping Terminal. Removing contamination, increasing navigation depth, strengthening main dock, and installing a stormwater system and electrifying the terminal are several of the actions they have taken. The Port was also recently granted $17.9 million to restore a direct rail connection to the BNSF mainline.

The shipping terminal open houses are going hand in hand with Day on the Bay festivities. There are no reservations required and additional dates to explore the terminal may be added in the future.

The open houses scheduled thus far will occur on Sept. 28 from 12 to 2 p.m. and Oct. 4 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Bellingham Shipping Terminal on Cornwall Avenue.
