BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Port of Bellingham is making amends with Kulshan Trackside Beer Garden after a mishap with its digester tanks restoration project.
The Port’s project to restore the large digester tanks on the Bellingham waterfront was originally planned to be completed in April but was delayed in May when officials from the Port found lead-based paint chips on the lawns below the tanks. The Port contracted Purcell Painting and Coating to complete this project.
The discovery of lead-based paint chips caused Kulshan Trackside to close its lawn area for nearly a month while the grass was removed and replaced.
Port commissioners voted unanimously at a meeting on Tuesday, June 4 to approve compensation to Kulshan Brewing Company for causing the lawn area to close.
As part of the agreement, Kulshan will pay 50% less in concession fees to the Port in June and reduce its payments by nearly $6,000 to make up for the costs and lost use of the lawn area.
