Portion of South Bay Trail in Bellingham to close for 18 months

The trail runs through private property that's being developed into the Fairhaven Center.

BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham’s popular South Bay Trail connecting Taylor Dock to Fairhaven is scheduled to close late this month.

The trail runs through private property that’s being developed into the Fairhaven Center. The development will go up on the property currently known as “the pit,” a dirt area in Fairhaven used for parking.

The Fairhaven Center will include three buildings offering 200 residential units, commercial space and 80 public parking spaces in a private garage.

The South Bay Trail is expected to be closed for about 18 months, and a detour will be in place between the dock and Fairhaven.

The trail will be re-established after construction is complete.
