WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – An upcoming public hearing could slow some drivers just outside of Bellingham.
The Whatcom County Council will hold a discussion on reducing the speed limit near Alderwood Elementary School at their upcoming regular Tuesday meeting.
Though it’s part of the Bellingham School District, Alderwood Elementary is located just west of the city limits.
An ordinance was introduced to the County Council earlier this month that would reduce the speed limit on Alderwood Avenue to 20 mph. Nearby Hollywood and Redwood Avenues already have the 20-mph speed limit in effect, as both roads contain school crosswalks.
The speed limit change is strongly supported by the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Bellingham Public Schools.
