ROSS LAKE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – If you see smoke in parts of the North Cascades this fall, don’t be alarmed.

The National Park Service says they’ll be conducting prescribed burns in parts of the forest over the course of the next two months.

Crews will be focusing on the Lake Chelan and Ross Lake areas, where piles of brush, logs and branches will be carefully incinerated.

My Bellingham Now previously reported on the Border 2 fire, which has burned over 24,000 acres in all with 9,100 acres in Whatcom County. It is currently 75% contained.

The other wildfire area targeted by the prescribed burns is the Sisi Fire in rural Skagit County.

Located just northwest of Lake Chelan, the Sisi Fire has burned about 4,400 acres since it was discovered in August.

During the prescribed burns, air quality may be reduced near Ross Lake and Stehekin.
