WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The results of the August primary election are nearly finalized.

The Whatcom County Auditor’s office reports about 30% of ballots were returned, with just 33 left to count after the latest update earlier on Wednesday afternoon.

In the race for County Council, Elizabeth Boyle leads with over 54% of the vote for the District 2 seat.

Her likely challenger will be Maya Morales, who earned the second spot by just under 300 votes.

District 3 incumbent Tyler Byrd will be ousted from his seat, finishing third behind Jessica Rienstra and Kyle Christensen.

Both levies passed for the Rural Library District and the South Whatcom Fire Authority.

And incumbent Port Commissioner Ken Bell will face off against Carly James on the general election ballot for the District 2 position.

Results will be certified on Aug. 19.
