OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington state wants to hear from you on a proposed rate hike to ferry fares over the next two years.

The Washington State Transportation Commission is proposing a 3% increase in both vehicle and passenger fares on Washington State Ferries in October 2025.

The rates would rise by another 3% in May 2026.

The commission is also proposing to increase the summer season surcharge to 35% for all routes, which it says is consistent with current charges for San Juan routes. It comes as My Bellingham Now previously reported that increased fare rates on the Lummi Island ferry are set to take effect on Aug. 23.

Public comment on the proposed rate hike is now being accepted ahead of the commission’s final vote on Aug. 6.
