DEMING, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The county is seeking public feedback on a potential road closure near Deming this summer.

Plans are in place to close Truck Road for six months starting in June.

Whatcom County Public Works said the county received FEMA funding to repair the road after it was damaged during the Superbowl 2020 flood. That damage was aggravated during the November 2021 flooding, prompting the county to begin an emergency project on the site.

The second phase of repairs is planned to start this summer to finish remaining work on the road and add necessary steps to protect the environment. A detour would be expected to be in place through the end of November.

The Whatcom County Council is holding a public hearing Tuesday before officially closing the road. Community members are encouraged to voice their opinions about the proposed closure. You can access the meeting remotely using the Whatcom County website.
