EVERSON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Crews have installed a four-way stop at an intersection near Everson following a tragic accident.
Whatcom County Public Works says it installed flashing LED stop signs at the intersection of South Pass Road and Goodwin Road. It is now a four-way stop, effective immediately.
The change comes after a fatal crash at the intersection on Oct. 31, when an 11-year-old child was killed by a speeding driver who was going around 100 mph. The driver, who is from Sedro-Woolley, is now facing a trial on vehicular homicide charges for driving under the influence.
Whatcom County Council Member Ben Elenbaas says the change is something that the community has long been advocating for.
“There has been a lot of issues at this intersection—and the community has been in an uproar for years,” Elenbaas said at a Dec. 3 council meeting.
Signs that saw “New Traffic Pattern” and “Stop Ahead” will alert drivers as they approach the intersection.
