OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Election results are nearly finalized, but one key race is still coming down to the wire.

Sal Mungia leads Dave Larson by just over 4,000 votes, or .16%, in the race for a vacant seat on the state Supreme Court as of this Thursday morning.

It’s the first time in 12 years that Washington voters will decide a new state Supreme Court justice.

Though the position is nonpartisan, Mungia has received support from Gov. Jay Inslee and other Democratic officials, while Larson has the endorsement from the state’s Republican Party.

So far, Mungia leads in just five of the state’s 39 counties, though his overwhelming support in King County has given him the slight edge.

Voters here in Whatcom County have also favored Mungia, who garnered nearly 53% approval.
