OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington saw record enrollment in an online program for affordable healthcare as open enrollment comes to a close.

Open enrollment for the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA) closed on Jan. 15.

Washington Health Benefit Exchange is reporting that over 308,000 Washington residents signed up for health and dental plans during the open enrollment period.

Exchange’s CEO Ingrid Ulrey says that the record high enrollment can be attributed to enhanced federal tax credits, Cascade Care Savings, and federal assistance for the lowest-income customers.

Ulrey advocates for systemic reform as the growth is not sustainable given governmental funding at this time.

The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services reports that millions more customers are using the affordable healthcare program compared to years past.
