WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom County will be bustling this weekend with Memorial Day events and the annual Ski to Sea race taking place across the county.
Road closures will impact traffic throughout the weekend, so here is a list of closures to note if you plan to hit the road.
SR 542 will be closed on Sunday, May 25 from 7:15 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. for Ski to Sea. Both lanes will be closed to traffic during that time between Silver Lake Road in Maple Falls and the Mt. Baker Ski Area.
In Bellingham, two different events will impact traffic on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, the Whatcom Memorial Day Parade will take over a section of Cornwall Avenue from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. During that time, parking will not be permitted on certain streets near the parade route.

The parade will run from noon until 2 p.m.
On Sunday, the annual Fairhaven Festival will take place on a couple streets in Fairhaven. 11th Street will be closed, as well as sections of Mill Street and Harris Avenue between 12th Street and 10th Street.
Mill Street between 10th Street and 11th Street will be closed on both Saturday and Sunday.
Public Works sent the following information about road closures in Fairhaven on Sunday:
“11th Street from Knox to McKenzie; 10th Street from Mill Avenue to Donovan Avenue; Harris Street between 12th and 10th Streets. Parking is restricted along Harris Street from 12th Street to Marine Park between 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. Accessible parking is available on 10th Street near Mill Avenue, and on 4th Street between McKenzie and Harris Street. Traffic from Marine Park will be detoured from 4th Street to Bayside Road to Hawthorn Road.”

Public Works also reminds the public to pay attention to no-parking signs and to plan ahead if your route takes you through these areas this weekend.
The Fairhaven Festival is touted as being Bellingham’s largest street fair, with a mix of vendors, live music and regional breweries.
“We have fantastic live music and 60 artisan vendors this year,” said Hannah Hudson with the Fairhaven Festival.
