BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Beach access at Point Whitehorn Marine Reserve has been closed indefinitely.
Whatcom County Parks and Recreation says the trail leading down to the beach south of Birch Bay is currently closed due to structural damage to the stairs.
The damage was caused by wood rot from age and environmental conditions.
There is no estimated timeline for the trail’s reopening.
Meanwhile, the Lake Whatcom trailhead and parking lot is back open after a small fire restricted access to it last week.
Parks and Rec says a small, contained fire broke out in an old log beneath two cherry trees on Thursday.
The fire was extinguished shortly after crews from the state Department of Resources arrived at the scene.
