BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A portion of a recent $1 million donation from Dolly Parton is being allotted to residents in Whatcom County.
The Bellingham Corps Salvation Army has received a $50,000 grant for its Hope Market client-choice food pantry.
The Hope Market in Bellingham, located on Birchwood Avenue, expanded its facility and program in March 2024. Its client choice model allows shoppers to choose their own food items based on their needs.
“We’re so grateful for Dolly Parton’s incredible giving spirit,” said Major Shevaun Malone, officer at the Salvation Army in Bellingham. “With her help, we provided healthy food for 4,750 people facing food insecurity in Whatcom County during the holiday season.”
Though the funds were donated in December, Malone says they are still actively being used to stock the Hope Market’s pantry shelves.
The food bank is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to all individuals, and Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. for people 60 years and older.
