GLACIER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A stretch of the scenic Mount Baker Highway, or Highway 542, will be closed for bike riders to race up to Artist Point in the 2025 Mt. Baker Hill Climb.

This year’s race is planned to bring around 450 riders to Highway 542, as Whatcom County Public Works is reminding drivers to steer clear of the race course on Sunday, Sept. 14, between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m.

The Mt. Baker Hill Climb starts at Snowater Road near Chair 9 and takes cyclists on a 22.4-mile ride along the Nooksack River before climbing up to Artist Point on Mount Baker with a total elevation gain of 4,482 ft.

The race, hosted by Whatcom Events, sold out in June. The 2024 first-place finisher completed the race with a time of 1:22:41.
