BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A shooting in north Bellingham left a man dead early Monday morning.

Bellingham Police (BPD) said they responded to multiple reports of shots being heard in woods near Tull Street off Kellogg just after 3 a.m.

Officers arrived to find a group of people with a man on a cart who was suffering a gunshot wound to his upper body. The man was treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital, where he died.

Police obtained search warrants to enter the private property along with K9 units and an Unmanned Aircraft System to look for evidence and other potential victims.

Detectives and crime scene investigators believe they know the location in the woods where the shooting occurred. They’re treating the death as a homicide and are withholding the name of the victim until he can be identified by the Medical Examiner.

No suspects have been taken into custody yet.

Police confirmed the shooting occurred near a homeless encampment, but they aren’t yet connecting the incident to the encampment.

BPD said no other information is available at this time, as the investigation is ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact them at 360-778-8770 or submit an online tip.
