FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A man is in custody after he called 911 to report that he had shot a family member then fled the scene.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to the 1500 block of Harksell Road after the suspect made the call at about 7 a.m. Saturday, June 8.
The victim called shortly after that to report the suspect was angry and agitated and fired a shot that hit them in the leg.
The suspect’s vehicle was later spotted on Main Street in Ferndale, but the driver did not pull over and sped onto I-5 to northbound Portal Way.
He led officers on a chase to Grandview where a PIT maneuver successfully disabled the suspect’s car.
He was uncooperative and threatened deputies, who called in a SWAT team before taking him into custody on suspicion of assault, eluding and DUI.
The sheriff’s department also says he kicked a deputy in the chest while refusing a blood draw at the hospital, resulting in a charge of assaulting law enforcement.
