SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two Whatcom County residents were among 14 arrested over the weekend in the bust of a suspected child sex abuse ring.
Washington State Patrol says the multi-day operation targeted people who are believed to have abused and exploited children from Skagit County using social media.
State Patrol named 14 suspects, including 37-year-old Cody Mitchell of Ferndale and 25-year-old Ronald Romero Ramos of Bellingham.
Probable cause was established to arrest the group on suspicion of first-degree and second-degree child rape, communication with a minor for immoral purposes and sexual exploitation of a minor. All 14 suspects are currently being held at the Skagit County Jail.
The operation involved 19 different agencies, including the Bellingham Police Department and the FBI.
“We will be aggressively prosecuting these people and holding them accountable for their actions. We will remain vigilant in attempting to identify and bring to justice others who would engage in these activities,” said Skagit County Prosecutor Rich Weyrich.
Anyone with information related to any of the suspects or potential victims is being asked to contact State Patrol’s Missing and Exploited Children Task Force at mectf@wsp.wa.gov.
