SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Residents in Skagit County have a chance to get familiar with the finalists for their next county commissioner.
The two remaining Skagit County commissioners will interview three candidates on Monday, Jan. 5 to succeed Lisa Janicki in the now-vacant District 3 position.
My Bellingham Now previously reported that Janicki announced in July that she’s stepping down after just over a decade in the role.
Friday, Jan. 2 was her first official day of retirement.
Janicki’s current term runs through the end of 2026, so the candidate who’s nominated will serve until results are certified from November’s general election and a newly elected commissioner takes office.
Monday’s interviews take place from 1-3 p.m. in the commissioners’ hearing room in Mount Vernon and the public is free to attend in-person or via livestream.
The commissioners will then meet in a private session before returning to potentially vote on a nomination in front of the public.
They could also choose to push the decision back for up to two months.
