MOUNT VERNON, WA. – (MyBellinghamNow.com) A crash in Skagit County claimed the life of a Mount Vernon High School student.

The Washington State Patrol says that four teens were inside a car that crashed into a pole on State Route 534 near Lake McMurray on Tuesday night, Feb. 6.

One of the passengers, an unidentified 15-year-old girl, was not wearing her seatbelt and was killed.

Mount Vernon High School said in a statement on Wednesday, Feb. 7, that they would be providing support and resources to students, staff, and family impacted by the crash.

The other three teens were taken to Skagit Valley Hospital and Harborview Medical Center.

One of them, a 15-year-old boy, has been identified as the driver.

WSP says an investigation is ongoing to determine if he will face any charges.
