MOUNT VERNON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Northwest Clean Air Agency is offering 6 months of free garbage pickup for eligible Skagit County residents in an attempt to combat trash burning.
The “Curb It, Don’t Burn It” offer extends to the first 160 single-family households to apply before Aug. 30.
The households must be new customers with waste management and fall within zip codes starting with 982 and ending with either 63, 55, 83, 67 or 37 with the only exception being residents of the town of Concrete.
The trial service will allow the choice of a weekly or every other week pickup of one 35-gallon garbage cart that will be provided.
The agency is funding the trial to see if they can reduce the amount of garbage burning, which can have serious negative effects to community health and the environment.
Visit the Northwest Clean Air Agency’s website for more information and to submit an application.
