SKAGIT COUNTY, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) Skagit County put a pause on most large events hosted on agricultural land – starting now. The County’s Board of Commissioners voted to pass an interim ordinance Tuesday that temporarily bans new permits for these events. The moratorium went into effect immediately.

Permanent businesses that already exist and specifically host large events like weddings and concerts are not impacted by the new ordinance. But farms and other agricultural businesses will no longer be able to host similar large events. They’ll also need special permits for educational or interactive events like U-pick.

KGMI previously reported that the move was being considered to curb agritourism in Skagit County.

A public hearing on the new ordinance will be held on March 25 at 11:30 a.m. You can attend the hearing in-person at Commissioners’ Hearing Room located at 1800 Continental Place in Mount Vernon or remotely using Zoom. If you have issues connecting with the Zoom link, alternative choices are made available on the Skagit County Board of Commissioners’ website.
