SNOHOMISH, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Snohomish man has been arrested for his suspected role in the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol breach.

47-year-old Derek Noftsger is charged with obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder and assaulting, resisting or impeding officers using a dangerous weapon—both felony offenses.

Court documents state that an open-source video from the event showed a man identified as Noftsger picking up a police officer’s riot shield and throwing it at officers. The FBI arrested him in Snohomish on Aug. 15.

Noftsger is one of nearly 1,500 people that have been charged in connection to the 2021 U.S. Capitol breach, including three others from Washington that My Bellingham Now has previously reported on.
