SUDDEN VALLEY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – South Whatcom Fire officials have provided an update on a station that’s been closed for over a month.
Chief Mitch Nolze says that Station 22, located in Sudden Valley, has been closed since Jan. 15 after freezing pipes caused a massive water leak. The station’s living quarters were impacted the most, with water damaging the area’s walls, ceilings and electrical equipment.
Station 22 personnel have since been temporarily relocated to the Geneva Fire Station, but administrative staff remain at the Sudden Valley offices.
Nolze added that South Whatcom Fire Authority had just signed onto a contract to renovate the Sudden Valley Station in December. That project is now being fast-tracked to avoid mold and other structural issues.
South Whatcom Fire is encouraging Sudden Valley residents the opportunity to comment or ask questions about the future of Station 22.
