ANACORTES, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Anacortes High School community is mourning the loss of one of its teachers following a fatal car crash on Monday morning.
Washington State Patrol tells My Bellingham Now that a driver was heading south on SR 20 around 7 a.m. when they crossed the center line and struck two cars.
The driver of one of those cars, identified as 36-year-old Edmundo Corrales, was killed in the crash.
The Anacortes School District said in a statement that Corrales was a Spanish teacher at its high school.
The district called Corrales an “irreplaceable part of the community” and highlighted the warmth, humor and passion he spread to his students and colleagues.
The driver who started the crash was the only other person who was injured and was sent to Island Hospital.
Washington State Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash, but says drugs or alcohol were not a factor.
