OLYMPIA, WA. – (MyBellinghamNow.com) If you bought travel insurance recently, you may have some money coming your way.
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced on Wednesday, January 17th, that Allianz, the world’s largest insurance company, must pay $1.5 million for discriminating against 560 Washingtonians with mental or nervous health disorders.
Allianz sells travel insurance and reimburses customers for travel cancellations caused by illnesses or medical conditions.
Ferguson says the company denied claims made by Washington residents whose trips were disrupted by mental health events.
The investigation into Allianz started in 2019 and found that the company violated the Washington Law Against Discrimination and the state Code and Protection Act.
Money from the lawsuit will only go to Washington residents who were directly impacted.
