OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A projected drop in revenue is causing concern for state transportation officials.
Washington’s Office of Financial Management (OFM) said that new estimates predict the state could see a $36 million decrease in transportation revenue.
Those estimates are compared to forecasted numbers issued in February for the 2025-27 biennium.
Future forecasts show even higher rates of revenue decline.
If current trends continue, OFM predicts transportation revenue could drop by over 2.5% in the 2029-31 biennium.
OFM adds that the projected revenue changes were made due to a loss in gas tax funds, vehicle registration fees and taxes on rental cars.
