WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A statewide burn ban is now in effect following a record-breaking heat wave.

The state Department of Natural Resources announced the burn ban on all forest lands under the state’s protection Wednesday. The order prohibits outdoor burning, campfires, the use of charcoal briquettes and prescribed burns through September 30.

It comes after scorching temperatures were reported around the state over the past week, including a daily record high of 88 degrees in Bellingham Tuesday.

There is currently a Stage 1 burn ban in effect for Whatcom County through September 14, though recreational fires are still allowed.
