BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Strong winds and heavy mountain snow are prompting weather alerts across the region.

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a wind advisory through 7:00 p.m. on Monday in the lowlands of western Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Southeast winds could reach 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

Meanwhile, a winter storm warning remains in effect for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit counties through 10:00 p.m. on Monday.

Mount Baker is expected to get up to 16 inches of snow.

Forecasters warn that travel could be very difficult, with the heaviest snow coming in the afternoon through the evening.
