BELLINGHAM, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) A man is in custody after allegedly vandalizing several cars in downtown Bellingham.
55-year-old James Rittel is accused of causing nearly $11,000 in damages Thursday morning.
Bellingham Police spokesperson Megan Peters says officers responded to a report of a suspect actively hitting car windshields on West Champion Street around 5:40 am.
Rittel allegedly keyed one car whose owner has an anti-harassment order against him and damaged the windshields of two other vehicles.
Rittel did not follow orders and actively resisted arrest when officers arrived on the scene.
He now faces charges for malicious mischief, resisting arrest and anti-harassment order violation.
Rittel remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
